Master Bedroom Makeover

The time had come for us to finish our master bedroom. I had taken great care to research and Feng Shui our home when we first moved in. Our bedroom served as half-nursery from day 1 of us moving in, 5 years ago. We had a great foundation in regards to set up and decor so, it just needed some finishing touches to really bring it up to life and truly fall inline with the laws of feng shui.

I will list here the items we added and/or changed in our bedroom and then I will go more into what Feng Shui is and how we applied it to our master bedroom in part two of this post.

Accent Chair

First, we switched out our wooden rocking chair, that we’ve had since both boys were babies. We spent a lot of hours rocking those sweet babies in that chair but I was so ready to pass it along and upgrade to something much more stylish and glamorous. I decided on an accent chair from Dorel living.  I found them on Instagram and loved their style. The chair is just gorgeous!  The best part, their items are available on Amazon!

The biggest change was moving the crib out of the room and adding a nightstand, mirror and lamp to match the other side. This is HUGE for good Feng Shui, I will explain why a little later in part two of this post.

Another big change was FINALLY hanging curtains.  Our house is on a large canyon lot and we don’t really need curtains for privacy but aesthetically it made a world of difference.  We went with a set of inexpensive curtains from Ikea and the Betydlig hardware to hang them.

* BONUS: How to hang curtains *

Width: To make the window feel grander and to let more light in, add 3 to 6 inches beyond the window frame on each side.

Length: To draw the eyes upward and to give visual height to a room, add 4 to 6 inches above the window frame. Or, you can measure halfway between the top of the window and the ceiling.  Our ceilings are 8′ so we hung ours from floor to ceiling.

Rug

Next, we added another statement piece, a beautiful wool rug from RugsUsa.  When choosing a rug we always choose one made of natural fibers and RugsUsa has the best selection and super affordable prices.  I love the rug, its stunning, soft and cushiony.  Just look at the difference it makes in my #ootd mirror selfie!

DRESSER & NIGHTSTANDS

We kept the same dresser and night stands but gave them an update by changing out the knobs.  I picked them up at Home Goods and they are just stunning.  An inexpensive way to spruce a dresser up!

BEDDING

Our bedding is from Beddy’s and you can read more on my thoughts of their bedding here.

Our color scheme is very neutral and we can add some pops of seasonal color as desired. We’re so happy with how it’s coming along.  The energy is so light and airy.  Love it! I will share more on Feng Shui in part two of this post. Feel free to leave your questions below and I will touch on them in part two of this post.
