Sweet and Salty Strawberry Popcorn makes for the most perfect and festive Valentine’s Day treat. Easy, tasty and no food coloring needed for this pink popcorn. The color comes from freeze dried strawberries! We found this recipe in the monthly mailer, my boy’s received, from Jimbo’s, a local natural food store. We love their kid’s club newsletter, if your in San Diego County, sign your children up for free!
Ok, so now for the good stuff! We popped the popcorn on our stovetop but this recipe works just as well with ready-made popcorn. It’s sweat, salty and so pretty! How cute would this be as a Christmas, birthday party treat or for movie night? This recipe really has my creative juices flowing. I want to try so many different versions. Like a spicy version or with marshmallows. The possibilities are endless!
INGREDIENTS:
3-4 cups pre-popped popcorn or you can pop
1/2 cup freeze dried strawberries
1 T coconut sugar
1 t salt
Olive Oil or Coconut oil spray
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Place the freeze dried berries in a ziploc baggie and crush with a rolling pin or wooden spoon. Once the berries are finely crushed into a sugar like powder, add the sugar and salt.
- Pour the popcorn in a large bowl and spray with a little cooking spray. Then toss and spray again until the popcorn is glistening. You shouldn’t need more than a few sprays. Pour the berry powder mixture onto the popcorn a quarter cup at a time and toss until evenly mixed together and popcorn is pink.
*We added the popcorn back into the ziplock bag and gave it a few good shakes to evenly coat the popcorn.
That is it! So easy and fun. Would love to hear your thoughts on this, Sweet and Salty Strawberry Popcorn, in the comments below!
