About 8 years ago, I made a sharp left turn to my green beauty journey and haven’t looked back. I shared how my journey began here. On today’s post, I will share why you should switch to Natural Deodorant and my top 3 favorite brands.
Most deodorants & antiperspirants are full of toxic & hormone-disrupting chemicals. That have been linked to cancer and chronic diseases, such as breast cancer and Alzheimer’s.
- Propylene glycol
- Triclosan (or triclocarban)
- Aluminum
- Silica
- Parabens
- Formaldehyde
- Fragrance (can contain any of thousands of chemicals and ingredients are not listed individually)
- Triethanolamine and diethanolamine (TEA and DEA)
- Talc (can contain asbestos)
- Petroleum
- Isobutane
- FD & C colors
What do we do?
Don’t sweat it, friends! There are a ton of great options available to us! Much more than when I first embarked on this journey. Here, I will link my top 3 tried and tested favorite brands. It is important to note, that none of these contain antiperspirant ingredients, so you will still sweat but you don’t have to stink. Also, there is a bit of a detox phase. Just think, most of us have been clogging out sweat glands for years, some even decades! All that gunk has to come out.
Also, everyone’s body chemistry is different and therefore not everyone will have the same results. Personally, for me, I need to switch up deodorants about every 4-6 weeks. Which is about how long each deodorant last. Some of us will experience some irritation and it is usually due to the baking soda in the deodorant. When this happens, I know it’s time to switch to a different brand, this always resolves it and I don’t have any issues when I reintroduce that same deodorant a couple months later. Hence, the 3 man rotation.
Another concern is, our clothes sometimes stain, due to the oils used in most natural deodorants. I’m in sleeveless tops 350 days out of the year but the 15 days I get to wear sleeves I usually use the EO spray deodorant as the base is liquid vs. solid.
Not working? Still stinky?
Totally normal! Again, this is when an underarm detox may help. I’ll be sharing my detox routine in the next couple weeks. Also, you may need to reapply more often. I carry one in my bag and reapply as needed. The Schmidt’s Rose Vanilla smells heavenly! I always get compliments on the scent!

I was recently introduced and have become a BIG fan of Primally Pure and I look forward to trying their line of deodorants.

What can be used instead of coconut oil? I’m allergic to coconut oil. And and anything with coconut in it, may it be food or cosmetic I can’t have coconut in it.

Hi Sandra! You can try Shea butter or tallow.
